Yesterday, I had the privilege of being present in Evanston as Governor Pritzker signed Senate Bill 1560 into law. Illinois is now the first state in the nation to require universal annual mental health screenings in public schools for students in grades 3 through 12.
At Hope WINS, our mission is to educate and equip parents and children with the necessary tools for healthy relationships. This law aligns perfectly with what we do. It ensures that mental health support becomes as routine as hearing or vision checks starting in the 2027–2028 school year, provided the state has procured screening tools that include student self-report options and offers them free to school districts.
Being there to witness this historic signing in person was an incredible experience. At our core, we believe every family deserves access to timely support and hope. This legislation provides a critical tool to identify challenges early so families can access guidance, resources, and care before crises emerge. Seeing this moment unfold reaffirmed why Hope WINS exists. We’re honored to have been present for such a transformative milestone that will bring real change, lifting up more children and families across Illinois with what they need to succeed.
