The Hope WINS Collaborative is entering an exciting new season of growth and purpose. What began as a gathering of partners and community voices is now transitioning into a Lived Experience Advisory Panel, a group rooted in the wisdom of parents, caregivers, and individuals who understand the realities of navigating mental health, trauma, and complex systems firsthand.
This shift reflects what Hope WINS has always believed: the people closest to the challenges often have the clearest insight into what solutions are needed. As the panel forms, momentum is already building quickly as members step forward to help shape meaningful ways to strengthen connection and belonging in our community.
During our most recent meeting, the group identified community events and belonging as an important focus moving forward. The goal is simple but powerful, create spaces where families feel welcomed, supported, and connected.
With that vision in mind, the Collaborative is excited to announce plans for a special community event during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Month this May. Immediately following the Memorial Day Parade, families are invited to gather at Freeport Art Plaza for “The Future They Fought For.”
This event will celebrate both the sacrifices of those who served and the importance of supporting the wellbeing of the next generation. The afternoon will be filled with music, food, family-friendly activities, and community connection, along with a Children’s Mental Health Proclamation from Mayor Jodi Miller. Local organizations and vendors will also be present, offering resources and fun activities for the whole family.
More than just an event, “The Future They Fought For” represents a shared commitment from our community, to ensure that children and families have the support, connection, and hope they deserve.
We can’t wait to gather as a village and celebrate together.
