How Hope WINS is Helping Shape a Stronger Future for Families in Illinois

Something powerful happened over two days in March… and it’s the kind of momentum that ripples far beyond a meeting room.

The Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation (ILCHF) brought together organizations from across the state with one shared goal: to build a better, more connected system of care for children’s mental and behavioral health.

And we were honored to have Hope WINS at the table.

First, What’s a FRO… and What is ILCHF?

Let’s break it down real quick:

ILCHF (Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation) is a statewide organization that invests in and supports programs improving children’s mental health and well-being across Illinois.

A FRO (Family-Run Organization) is exactly what it sounds like, an organization led by families, for families. These groups are rooted in lived experience, meaning the people doing the work truly understand the journey because they’ve walked it themselves.

Hope WINS is proud to be one of those Family-Run Organizations, supporting families right here in Freeport and the surrounding areas.

Day One: “Every Child, Every Voice”

The first day focused on FROs, creating space for reflection, growth, and real conversation.

This wasn’t surface-level talk. This was honest, meaningful, sometimes emotional work. Leaders came together to share what’s working, what’s not, and how we can do better, together.

At Hope WINS, this aligns directly with what we do every day:

Walking alongside families through challenges

Offering parent-to-parent mentorship rooted in real experience

Creating spaces where caregivers feel seen, heard, and supported

Because when families feel supported, everything shifts.

Day Two: Bigger Tables, Stronger Connections

The second day expanded the room, bringing in Care Coordination & Support Organizations (CCSOs) and Community Network Anchors.

Translation? More voices, more perspectives, and more opportunities to connect the dots across systems that families often have to navigate alone.

And here’s the truth:
When systems don’t talk to each other, families feel it.
When they do work together, families thrive.

This day was all about building those bridges.

What This Means for Our Community

Everything discussed at this gathering feeds directly into the work happening back home.

Hope WINS continues to support families across Stephenson County and Northwest Illinois through:

RISE Parent-to-Parent mentoring
RISE Family Connection Nights
RISE Parent Support Groups
MAC(Mentoring, Activities, & Connection) Camp and youth programming
MAC Camp Family Days
Workshops, trainings, and prevention-based education programs

These aren’t just programs, they are lifelines, connection points, and stepping stones toward stability, confidence, and growth.

The Heart of It All

If there was one thing this experience reinforced, it’s this:

No single organization can do this work alone.

But together?
We can build something that truly works.

Something that listens.
Something that connects.
Something that meets families where they are, and walks with them forward.

Because at the end of the day:

Every child deserves to be heard.
Every family deserves support.
And every voice matters.
A Reminder We Carry With Us

We all need hope… but we all need different strategies and tools to win.

We are incredibly grateful to ILCHF and every organization that showed up, shared openly, and committed to strengthening this work.

The future isn’t just something we hope for…
It’s something we’re building, together.
