Hope WINS...What I Need to Succeed

Meet Janelle Nelson, Program Director

Janelle Nelson brings a unique blend of professional expertise, lived experience, and deep-rooted community connection to her role as Program Director at Hope WINS. With a degree in Human Services and a minor in Psychology—emphasizing abnormal growth and development—Janelle has devoted her career to supporting individuals and families through both traditional and holistic approaches.

She spent several years working in a local group home for teenage girls with mental health diagnoses and special needs, gaining firsthand experience in crisis response, trauma-informed care, and adolescent development. Janelle also holds certifications in Trauma-Based Intervention, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and has pursued and obtained multiple practitioner-level certifications in holistic therapeutic treatments.

Beyond her clinical background, Janelle has served on various local and regional boards, including the Policy Council for Head Start, the Special Needs Moms Retreat Board through Easter Seals of Rockford, and the PTO for an FSD145 elementary school.

Raising a child with special needs for over a decade, she is personally invested in building systems of support that are inclusive, compassionate, and practical.

Janelle is also the founder and owner of a holistic supply store in Freeport, where she combines her passion for healing with her commitment to community empowerment. Her multidisciplinary background, understanding of day to day business operations, and unwavering advocacy make her a powerful resource for families navigating complex needs.

Janelle believes that healing begins with being seen, heard, and supported. Through Hope WINS, she is honored to walk alongside families, offering both tools and hope for lasting change.
